Brian is a junior Mechanical Engineering student at Cleveland State University who currently serves as an assistant to the University’s Manager of Utilities, Energy and Sustainability. Brian has served in this position since February 2016. The position corresponds directly with his career goal to become a leader in the energy/utilities field.
Brian strives to assist the University to efficiently use all of its energy resources. One of his primary duties involves tracking how each building across campus utilizes electric, steam, natural gas, and water resources. This information is crucial in making sure that various building systems and equipment are operating efficiently. It also helps to identify areas where additional efficiency measures may be necessary. It should be known that the University has implemented several such measures within the last decade to operate in a more sustainable and efficient manner (upgrading equipment, improved controls, energy monitoring, etc.), much of which has gone unnoticed by the campus community.
Brian has also taken significant initiative outside of the position to learn more about the field of energy/utilities/sustainability and to connect with those who work in the field. He has participated in several outside events hosted by the Cleveland 2030 District, the CSU Sustainable Business Center Corporate Roundtable, and the Association of Energy Engineers. He has also independently connected with others in the field to learn about the different challenges and emerging trends within it.
